Lazatin urges Fernandinos to help in bloodletting drives

CITY of San Fernando Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin Wednesday called on Fernandinos to help in bloodletting drives and donate blood, most especially those in good physical health, through various bloodletting drives.

Lazatin said that this comes timely as pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1021, the month of July has been designated as National Blood Donor’s Month.

Last Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Quest Hotel, Clark, Pampanga, the Blood Services Partners’ Engagement Ceremony was led by Philippine National Red Cross Chairman Senator Richard Gordon.

The City Government of San Fernando is one of the various stakeholders - private companies and government agencies - which signed the memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Red Cross to become its partner in raising public awareness on the need for quality and safe blood and encourage more blood donations through honoring and recognizing blood donors.

Lazatin said that during bloodletting drives, walk-in donors are allowed since they will undergo screening first to determine if they are qualified to donate blood. Those aged 18-35 years old can give blood but donors aged 16-17 may donate but there should be parental consent. The donor must at least be 50 kilos and supports a healthy lifestyle.

Prior to the bloodletting activity, donors must abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages, increase fluid intake as well as rest adequately 24 hours before giving blood, take a non-fatty breakfast and wash arms before donating blood.
