Tourism, property development up in 27th Minbizcon

ISSUES and opportunities on tourism and property development will take center stage in this year’s Mindanao Business Conference (Minbizcon) slated on September 13 to 15, 2018 at Big 8 Corporate Hotel, Tagum City.

Tagum City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Incorporated (TCCCII) president Virgilio F. Agunod, Jr. said during the Habi at Kape Wednesday, July 18, at Abreeza Ayala Mall that Mindanao’s economy, apart from agriculture, should anchor on tourism and property development.

“We feel that with the beautiful beaches Mindanao has, it is important to look on this aspect on tourism to gain more investors here in Mindanao,” he said adding that tourism promotions need to be established through Public Private Partnerships.

Last year, Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) recorded over two million tourist arrivals. Foreign tourist arrival data also showed an increased to 126,209 in 2017 from 124,863 tourist arrivals in 2016.

Davao City Chamber and Commerce, Inc. (DCCCII) vice president for professional services and ventures John Carlo B. Tria, for his part, said this year’s conference will also push more on investment capture than just promotions.

Connectivity, Agunod said, is also one of the focus areas to consider.

“We are also looking on raising the proposals on building more airports in Mindanao. The airport in Davao City is already crowded that’s why we are looking on the option of probably having an airport in Tagum and Digos,” Agunod shared.

Construction of more sea wharfs and ports in Davao region area also considered to promote development outside Davao City.

For its 27th edition, Minbizcon will be hosted by two local chambers: TCCCII and DCCCII.

Centering on the theme: “Building a shared future for Mindanao”, Minbizcon 2018 will be divided into three parts: building peace, building progress, and building businesses.

In its briefer, Minbizcon’s three sessions, will discuss topics highlighting both the present opportunities and the unexplored Mindanao’s potentials. It will feature a trade expo showcasing the island’s high quality brands and products.

Minbizcon is an annual event organized by Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry that aims to “create an avenue for different business sectors to discuss economic concerns and opportunities which will eventually lead to policy actions for the development of Mindanao.”
