P100,000 bounty up for Zapanta case

MISAMIS Orienal Governor Yevgeny Emano is offering P100,000 as reward money for anyone who could tip information leading to the identification and arrest of the gunmen and mastermind on the killing of Danao, Jasaan town village chief Alfredo Zapanta.

Emano has pledged the bounty to entice those who have knowledge on the Zapanta case to come forward.

The cash reward was sourced from the peace and order fund of the Provincial Government.

Emano said this is the result of the meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), which he chairs, to speed up the probe and bring the perpetrators behind bars.

Zapanta was gunned down by still unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects outside his house last July 13, just three days before the chapter election of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Jasaan town.

Authorities are eyeing politics as among the possible motives of the assassination.

Chief Inspector Rogelio Labor Jr., Jasaan town police chief, said the town mayor also gave P25,000 reward money.

Labor said investigators are exhausting all means to hasten the probe.

He said the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) is led by Superintendent Kenneth Balisang, the provincial deputy director for operation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), and the Jasaan town police.

"Padayon among meeting sa SITG pero so far wala pa gyud tay lead unya gi-develop pa namo ang motive," Labor said.
