Heavy vehicles barred from crossing Talomo Bridge 2

VEHICLES with gross weight of 15 tons will be prohibited to cross the Talomo Bridge 2 to give way for its rehabilitation starting Saturday, July 21, a Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) official said.

CTTMO head retired Superintendent Dionisio Abude, in yesterday's ISpeak media forum said they have already completed their plans for the rerouting scheme.

Advisory and directional signages in identified areas were also installed to guide trucks weighing 15 tons and more to use the other alternate road.

This developed considering that the Talomo Bridge 2 requires repair as it has been constructed since 1996 and starts showing signs of dilapidation. One of the factors cited is the crossing of vehicles that went beyond the allowable weight.

They will use the Scheme B wherein huge trucks from South bound to North will have to opt for the Puan road and Lubugan.

They will start deploying personnel at 6 a.m. in Crossing Bayabas, Toril; Crossing Puan; Crossing Ulas; and Crossing Keith Williams Bible College to identify trucks that exceed 15 tons.

In determining the vehicles’ weight, Abude said those six wheelers and 10 wheelers could be one of their targets depending on their load.

They will regulate the vehicles passing the bridge because of the risk. He also underscored that violators will be penalized under the traffic code.
