AFTER the successful staging of the 3rd Discovery Leadership Summit for Sports Leaders last July 26-28 at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas, Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) will host another Leadership Summit for Athletes on July 22-24 at the Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) in Butuan City.

This was bared by MPG convener Noli Ayo who was with University Athletic Association (Uaap) executive director and commissioner for basketball lawyer Rebo Saguisag during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, July 19, 2018.

"This time, athletes who are joining the MPG Friendship Games on October 26-30 are involved in this Leadership Summit for Athletes so that they may experience what will happen on October (during the games) and relay the excitement to their respective schools," Ayo said.

The three-day program will feature series of talks spearheaded by prominent sports leaders and an "out-of-the-box" experience for the athletes.

"This comes along with a dragonboat workshop since Butuan City is known for producing quality Dragonboat teams as well as the much-awaited athletes' dinner," Ayo said.

Among the speakers are Gigi Catolico and Jr. NBA trainer Patricia Ish Tiu.

MPG was established four years ago to promote a new culture in sports and empower leaders.

"MPG is not trying to be like Uaap but it is more of a movement than a sport. Sport is used here as a platform to relay MPG's message across," Saguisag said.

After the Leadership Summit for Athletes, MPG will host its biggest Leadership Summit for Coaches slated August 30 at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu).
