PAMPANGA Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda has tasked the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Provincial Information Office (PIO) to post and announce situational updates in social networking sites to avoid confusion.

To avoid fake news, according to the governor, there must always be coordination between local government units (LGUs) and departments at the Capitol as much as possible.

LGUs, along with their respective disaster risk reduction management offices, must give the updates to the PDRRMO and PIO. With this, the people will not be confused on which online pages they can rely on during these times.

The governor on Thursday called LGU officials for an emergency meeting for situational updates in the province, with the end in view of intensifying efforts against calamities.

Governor Pineda also urged local chief executives to centralize public announcements especially the suspension of classes in towns greatly affected by typhoons such as Masantol, Macabebe, Sasmuan, Guagua, Apalit and San Simon.

By doing this, the governor said, there will be no more misleading news, which is really evident nowadays because of social networking sites.

PDRRMO Head Angie Blanco thanked the governor and Vice-Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda for their assistance.

Governor Pineda is also eyeing the help of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to fund the dike's rehabilitation in Pampanga River to avoid any danger to the lives of citizens who live near there. (PR)
