CH readies case vs. LTO

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said City Hall’s lawyers are preparing the complaint against Land Transportation Office (LTO) officials who are responsible for delays in the releasing of motorcycle registrations.

Osmeña said the case will protect owners of new motorcycles from paying the P12,000 penalty imposed by LTO for not having their registration.

“It takes time for them (lawyers) to do this research and to prepare. But I told them even last week to start and work on this,” he said.

Osmeña said the delay in the releasing of motorcycle registration is a serious problem since most owners bought their units for convenience.

He lamented that most of the time, owners can’t use their motorcycles without registration for fear of being apprehended by law enforcers.

“It’s a serious problem. People buy motorcycles because they want to go to work on time because the existing transportation system is not good enough. But they can’t use it because LTO is sitting on it,” he said.

Osmeña said LTO 7 Director Victor Caindec should not divert the issue by fighting over the problem on traffic.

Fine

Earlier, Osmeña said he will pay the P12,000 fine of motorcycle owners who will be caught by LTO 7 for driving their units without registration.

If they will be caught by the Cebu City Transportation Office, the City Government will waive their fine.

He, however, told the city’s traffic enforcers already to stop arresting owners of motorycles withouth registration.

He also warned motorcycle dealers that he will shut down their businesses if they will delay the processing of the motorcycle’s registration, saying that it is not fair.

He said he received complaints about the matter from motorists.(RVC)
