WHEN Justin Bieber proposed to Hailey Baldwin after reconnecting for just a month, fans immediately wanted to know how Shawn Mendes and Selena Gomez felt about the engagement.
Gomez and Bieber had been dating on and off for more than half a decade, while Mendes was Baldwin’s most recent fling before jumping back on to the Bieber train.
But if fans were looking for drama, they won’t find it with 19-year-old Mendes.
“I texted Hailey the day of and I said ‘congrats’ and yeah, that’s what it is. I think everybody wants there to be more... there’s not,” said Mendes of the 21-year-old model’s engagement.
Mendes and Baldwin were each other’s date at the Met Gala last May. People swooned over Mendes fixing Baldwin’s train while walking the red carpet. They have been rumored to have started dating in late 2017, but the two remained coy when asked about the nature of their relationship.
But by June, Bieber and Baldwin were making out all over New York. Early this month, the 24-year-old “Sorry” crooner had proposed to Baldwin in the Bahamas.
But Mendes had nothing bad to say about Bieber.
“Bieber was a massive influence for me growing up,” the “In My Blood” singer said.
While many call it a whirlwind romance much like Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s quickie engagement, it really isn’t. Bieber and Baldwin have known each other for almost a decade. They became close friends then dated briefly in 2016.
