OH, SOCIAL media crazes and challenges – the great divider of young and old, of those in the know and those who wreck it when they belatedly take the humour too far and get everyone in their office to do their own version.
We’ve seen it all, from the well-meaning (Ice Bucket Challenge) to the fuzzy and kind (Mannequin Challenge). Sometimes though, certain ones come along and really test your faith in humanity (yeah, it’s about you, Tide Pod Challenge.)
But there hasn’t been an insane viral dance move since dabbing gave us some of the best vines, remember? Trends like dabbing, whipping and nae nae-ing, and even Miley Cyrus’ very own twerking are more than one-hit wonders as they hold a sacred spot in meme history. They’re a mishmash of viral social media posts, inevitable bops, and a dance move challenge that folks can carry out either amazingly well or hilariously wrong.
Recently, a viral dance challenge has sky-rocketed artist Drake's new song “In My Feelings” - taken from his album “Scorpion” - to the top of the charts. But who started it and what does it mean?
This so far has been hashtagged with both #InMyFeelingsChallenge and #DoTheShiggy, a reference to the dance moves on social media that started from comedian and online personality Shiggy, creator of The Shiggy Show, who became popular, thanks to his hilarious dance videos, impressions and rants.
Consequent to the release of this contagious new song, Shiggy uploaded a video of himself dancing to the track on his official Instagram page, which boasts of 1.4 million followers. (Wow!)
With the power of hashtags, everybody’s now on fire--from Hollywood to local celebrities, from kids to professionals, coast to coast, door to door. But you? Are you up to the challenge, too?
