Pagcor donates computers to Baguio schools

SIXTEEN schools in Baguio City received 80 computers from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) on July 19 under the Handog Computer Program for the 21st Century Skills Development of K to12 Learners.

Rico Acuña, Pagcor Senior Community Development and Welfare assistant, said the program aims to uplift the education of every child in the nation.

Engr. Antonio Tabora Jr., Cagayan Economic Zonal Authority (Ceza) operating consultant and Office of the President representative, explained the president and PAGCOR wants to give back to the people by providing programs that will boost the education in the country.

“If the children will face the challenges in life, they should be well equipped. In the battlefield, we need a weapon and that is education. That is why we are here today because we have to equip all of our children and all people who would like to be educated,” Tabora said.

Elementary schools who benefited in the program were Baguio Central School, Pacday Quiñio Elementary School, Doña Josefa Cariño Elementary School, Aguinaldo Elementary School, Lucban Elementary School, Mabini Elementary School, Alfonso Tabora Elementary School, and Manuel Roxas Elementary School.

Recipients in the secondary are Mil-an National High School, Baguio City National Science High School, Joaquin Smith National High School, Happy Hallow National High School, Sto. Tomas National High School, Pines City National High School, Magsaysay National High School, and Guisad Valley National High School.

Councilor Peter Fianza, who chairs the committee education, assured other schools which have not been a recipient of the computer sets will soon be provided.

“Pagcor is just one letter away. Definitely, we will be requesting for more and hopefully there will be provisions for these and our letter will be acted upon favorably,” Fianza added.

Fianza also guaranteed the city government will continuously support the program and will also allocate budget to satisfy the needs of the children. (Czarina Berlynn Donne Agustin/ MMSU intern)
