Cosmo holds charity run

HUNDREDS of runners are expected to hit the streets of Cebu as the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes Inc. (CFHI) will stage Run For Your Loved Ones on July 29 as part of the company’s 70th anniversary.

The event, which will start at the Cebu IT Park in Lahug and end at Plaza Independencia, is for the benefit for the homeless community of Cebu.

The run will feature the lone 5-kilometer distance. The divisions will be men’s and women’s 25-below, 30-above, and open category for the 26-29 years old.

The champions in every division will win P5,000, the second placers will get P3,000, and the third and fourth placers will get P1,000 and P500, respectively.

“This run is something that we are doing for our 70th anniversary in Cosmopolitan. This is our way to give back to the community as our beneficiary will be the homeless in Cebu,” said vice president for business development Cathleen Newnette Dychangco Anzani in a press conference at the Dolce Cafe yesterday.

The organizers said that they thought of a wellness activity that the community can be a part of and decided to do a fun run as one of the activities for a “70-70-70” project, where they do 70 acts of kindness for 70 random communities nationwide as part of their 70th anniversary.

The CFHI, a memorial service company, has also been doing community services such as a feeding program and mangrove planting, among others, as their way to give back to the community.

Race director Joel Juarez said that they’re targeting about 700 participants. There will be 50 children from the Cebu City Sports Commission grassroots program who will join the race for free. (RSC)
