NBI arrests Japanese, 71, for molesting teen

A 71-YEAR-OLD Japanese national was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 after he allegedly molested a 14-year-old girl in Poblacion, Toledo City last Thursday night.

Agents arrested Akira Togo after the bureau received a report from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through a call from the City Social Welfare and Development of Talisay that a minor was living with him and that he also allegedly sexually abused the girl.

Witnesses divulged that the minor moved in with Togo last June 4.

Their relationship was reportedly confirmed when the witnesses saw Togo on top of the minor at night.

The minor was sleeping and staying in Togo’s house without any other companion aside from him.

In an interview, Togo said that he was supporting the girl in her studies.

“Pumupunta sa school. Elementary,” he said.

Since he was in the company of a minor more than 10 years younger than him in a private place and he was not related to her in any way, either by consanguinity or affinity, Togo will face charges for violating Section 10 (b) of RA 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act of 1992.

The minor is now under the custody of the DSWD 7 after her rescue. (JOB)
