TWENTY-FOUR coffee and food processors in Negros Occidental have gained boost through the product packaging and labeling training initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Of the number, 17 are local coffee growers and processors. The other participants are processors of various food products in the province.

The one-day seminar, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)–Negros Occidental, was held at the Negosyo Center in Bacolod City yesterday.

DOST-Negros Occidental Science Research Analyst Fumio Moronaga, in his presentation, underscored the different kinds of packing materials.

He also discussed what packaging materials are applicable for specific products, mandatory requirements for labeling, nutritional facts, and shelf life analysis.

Engiemar Tupas, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, said the activity is aimed at equipping local processors and growers to produce “very good products” in time for the National Coffee Congress next year.

Tupas earlier said that improving packaging and labels enables micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to increase the marketability of their products.

Improving their packaging and labels enables local coffee and food processors to expand their markets, he said, reiterating that good product presentation gives them market advantage.
