Militant groups give Digong 'zero’ grade

SOME progressive groups in Negros Occidental gave President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte a “zero rating" in his two years of office.

Members of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP), Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng Maralitang Lungsod (KPML), and Aniban ng Manggagawa sa Agriklutura (AMA) under Sanlakas Negros rated the performance of the president in the aspect of economics, history and geography, civil defense and public safety, public administration and governance, and good manners and right conduct or values education.

Based on their score sheet, the groups claimed that Duterte failed to fulfill his promises to end poverty in the country.

They also criticized him for not respecting God, the Church, and Humanity.

They also criticized Duterte for focusing on the campaign against illegal drugs, wherein many have been killed.

They slammed the president for blaming the poor as the cause of the proliferation of illegal drugs and commission of crimes, adding the urban poor are trying to earn money for a living.

Arnel Ambid, Negros coordinator of PLM, said Duterte failed to clear the government from corrupt officials because despite removing them from the office, he replaced them with somebody who is identified as pro-Duterte.

The groups also hit Duterte on the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) Law, contractualization, land reforms, and federalism, among others.

Ambid, Alona Villa from KPML, Samuel Gavoro of BMP, and Alan Nagum of AMA also crumpled Duterte’s score sheet during a press conference held at the Negros Press Club in Bacolod City Friday.

The groups will hold a protest on Monday when Duterte delivers his State of the Nation Address.
