Distrito: Bacolod needs the flagship projects

“BACOLOD as a highly-urbanized city needs those flagship projects.”

This was stressed by Councilor Caesar Distrito following the report that a resident of Barangay Villamonte allegedly sent a letter to the Department of Finance (DOF) in Manila opposing the city’s loan application amounting to P1.7 billion to fund the city’s flagship projects.

The letter addressed to DOF Secretary Sonny Dominguez, dated June 4, was signed by Edgar Cadagat.

Cadagat stated in his letter that Mayor Evelio Leonardia should not be entrusted with millions of pesos in public funds which he will just divest the public.

He claimed these projects are only Leonardia’s strategy to generate funds for himself in preparation for the incoming elections.

The City Council had earlier approved the request of Leonardia to authorize him to apply for a loan with DOF amounting to P1.7 billion to fund the city's flagship projects.

These projects are the Progreso Village Relocation Site with the budget of P350 million; Bacolod City College Site Development and Facilities, P350 million; construction of Bacolod MassKara Coliseum, P800 million; and the construction of roads and bridges, P200 million.

“Stop this for whatever political and selfish reasons committed a great disservice to our beloved city and the people of Bacolod,” Distrito said.

He said the Leonardia administration is doing everything to make the lives of the people comfortable and easy, and they are doing everything to sabotage all these developments.

“The city had longed plan for this. In fact, the City Development Council, the Bacolod City College Board, the Bacolod Housing Board and the Sangguniang Panlungsod, since last year, had already conducted a study and discussed all these four projects separately. In short, everything was studied carefully before these projects were approved,” Distrito stressed.
