Delayed probe of Isabela village officials hit

JOHN Chiong, national commander of Task Force Kasanag, is complaining about the alleged delayed implementation of the order of the provincial office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to investigate the 11 barangay captains of Isabela town.

Chiong said the national office of the DILG has directed the provincial office to conduct an investigation into the alleged violations committed by the punong barangays for grave abuse of authority, alleged violation of the Agrarian Reform Program of the government and non-release of allowances intended for some barangay kagawads.

Most of the complaints that have been documented were filed against punong barangays who got re-elected in the last May elections.

"The cases are already with the Office of the Ombudsman and copy furnished with the DILG Regional Office in Western Visayas. The DILG has sent two memorandums to the DILG provincial office, a copy of which has already been received by the TFK.

“I have it verified with the DILG provincial office and I was the one who gave the copy to the DILG municipal office in Isabela," Chiong said.

The flow of communication and the DILG's action is also too slow, he pointed out.

"The order has been with DILG provincial office but they are just waiting that the local DILG officer would go to the provincial office so that they can give the copy of the order. Meaning, if the DILG local officer would go the provincial office next year, that would only be the time that the order would be acted," he said.
