KAPAMPANGANS are known nationally for their gastronomical talent in the kitchen. Every delight they create, flavors burst inside the tasters’ mouths and lavish their taste buds. This steaming impression never burned out because of the Kapampangan’s continuous culinary spree.

The City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO) didn’t let this image boil down. They brewed up cooking challenges for Kapampangans to join in and show off their skills. These competitions would not just exhibit their artistry, but would also stew up business opportunities.

Recently, an egg-inspired cooking challenge, dubbed “Eggterrific,” was held at the old Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) building in Barangay San Juan.

The nine participating schools were Dolores Elementary School, San Pablo Elementary School, Santo Niño Elementary School, Malino Elementary School, San Isidro Integrated School, Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Integrated School, San Jose Juliana Elementary School, Pampanga High School and San Nicolas High School. Each participant had one cook and two helpers.

The competent contestants were obligated to produce one complete meal with egg as their core ingredient for five to 10 members with an allotted time of two hours. They were judged based on their dishes’ creativity, originality, deliciousness, presentation, affordability and sanitation.

Dolores Elementary School took home the first place and “Best Appetizer” special award with their scrumptious omelette supreme, delicious egg supreme soup, crispy dynamite egg, and creative flower garden con yema.

San Nicolas Integrated High School landed in second place with their eggs in hell, sweetened egg squash, and mouth-watering egg roll with hearth.

Pampanga High School scored the third place with their delectable egg chicken tomato bites, luscious egg Spanish casserole, and appetizing fruit custard.

Other special awards went to San Isidro Integrated School’s flavorful one pot of creamy eggs for the “Best Main Dish,” Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Integrated School’s tasty egg tart with corn meal for the “Best Dessert,” and San Jose Juliana Elementary School for being the early bird.

The winners were given prizes worth P7,000 (first place), P5,000 (second place) and P3,500 (third place).
