I SAT beside an engaged couple and the bride-to-be was on the hunt for her perfect wedding gown. She said she prefers prêt-à-porter, “Off the rack gowns gives me the chance to see right away if the gown fits and if the tone is right.”

The couple was at the right place that evening. Francis Libiran was having his trunk show at the Marco Polo Davao.

It was a joint celebration for the designer and the venue. Both are on its 20th year in the business, Libiran in designing and Marco Polo Davao in the hospitality business. Both offer the brides romantic beginnings and a treasure chest filled with memorable love stories.

Libiran is quite popular in the couture business. His portfolio holds an impressive list of clients both locally and abroad. He’s also a go-to designer for the women who wishes to be the radiant bride.

Couture though takes time to create and can be expensive. But designers have created an alternative line that cost less yet as elegant. Libiran is one of those designers who is offering brides-to-be the choice—the couture gown or the Pret-a-porter.

At Marco Polo, Libiran presented his Pret-a-porter wedding gowns, Francis Libiran Bridal, in a fashion show. His collection of curated, made-to-measure gowns was presented to the Davao audience.

“The Mon Amour Collection was inspired by “Classical Romance”. The designs embody the mystery, magic, and beauty of falling in love. Romantic Era’s Literature, Art and 19th Century’s romantic ballet were the influences for this year’s bridal collection,” said the designer.

The bride beside me saw a couple of gowns that interested her. Perhaps she made an appointment for a private fitting at the hotel, where the designer was accepting appointments.

Will she be wearing a Libiran when she walks down the aisle next year? Let’s wait and see.

Behind the beauty, there’s another message that’s stitched on the satin and lace. It is the designer making the effort to diminish the distance between bride and her dream Libiran dress.
