Pangan: A new deal for MSMEs

THE RECENT National Summit for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at Clark Freeport Zone last July 10-11, 2018 highlighted the National Government's thrust to strengthen and empower this sector in order to make it a vital component in our economy.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is at the forefront in the efforts to explore all avenues towards assisting, in full terms, these modest industries in the hope that they would contribute significantly in nation-building through considerable sales and employment opportunities.

The said summit by DTI is probably only one in a series of a continuing dialogue between the government and the MSMEs and their various stakeholders.

These small enterprises are now spread throughout the country and they compose the middle class segment which needs all the encouragement and financial assistance to me it viable and sustainable.

In Mabalacat City, there is a DTI Negosyo Center which looks at the local concerns of traders and small enterprises. It is manned by one lady staff who is in constant touch with the regional office at Barangay Maimpis, City of San Fernando.

Speaking of the recently-concluded National Summit on MSMEs attended by President Rodrigo Duterte and some of his cabinet officials, DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez included in his message the inclusion of sugar content per pack in product labels, as compliance to the directive of the president which aims to inform the consumers of the sugar contents of beverage products.

This action is really part of the labelling and fair packaging contained in Article 74 of the Consumer Act which mandates the compulsory labelling and fair packaging to obtain accurate info on the nature and quantity of the contents of various products.

In the last flag ceremony, Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo voiced out his sentiments about the negative comments of some citizens who close their eyes to the various accomplishments of his administration.

To be fair, Mayor Garbo has done his city proud with his sincere and dedicated service to his city and its constituents whose welfare he takes full consideration and focus.

If elections were held today, he would surely win hands down given his

accomplishments and good objectives for the city.
