Mabolo Barangay Captain Prisca Niña Mabatid said that if she decides to run for president of Cebu City’s Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), she will do so as an independent candidate.

While she welcomes the support expressed by members of the opposition, Mabatid said she prefers to pursue her bid without any political influence.

“I am grateful for the support I am receiving, but I will stand by what I said that I will run as an independent candidate. I still have to know the consensus of the barangay captains first. I will issue a final statement on the matter on either July 25 or 26,” she said.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said he supports Mabatid because she has the advocacy and sincerity to help the barangays.

Kasambagan Barangay Captain Franklyn Ong, the candidate of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), remains unfazed by the possibility of running against a former ally.

BOPK has 50 of the city’s 80 barangy captains as allies who are expected to support Ong.

At present, BOPK and the opposition each have nine allies in the City Council. Should Ong win as ABC president, he would tip the scales in favor of the administration. (RTF)
