THE police force in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu will have a new director on Tuesday, July 24.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas presented to reporters on Monday morning, July 23, the new city police chief as Senior Superintendent Lemuel Obon, who is from Eastern Samar.

Obon, previously the commander of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO)-Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Chief Directorial Staff of NCRPO, was appointed by Camp Crame to replace Senior Superintendent Rommel Cabagnot, who have reached regular tour of duty of two years.

The announcement of Obon as new police director came a day after three Muslims were shot dead at the back of Virgen De La Regla Parish in Barangay Poblacion.

Sinas said a special investigation task group will be formed to solve the murders.

For his part, Obon promised to solve the case and he will continue the war on drugs. The police official also warned the erring officers of their illegal activities.

Obon said he will talk to Cabagnot and promised to retain his predecessor's good practices.

He added that the security for the international sporting event, the Ironman 70.3 Philippines, will not be affected.

Cabagnot was assigned to PRO-Central Visayas pending his appointment from Camp Crame to a higher position. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
