A POLICEMAN who had gone absent without official leave (AWOL) and three others were arrested in a drug bust at Barangay 27, Bacolod City Saturday, July 21.

The operation led to the recovery of P360,000 worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride).

Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, assistant team leader of City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), identified the suspects as Police Officer 1 Cesar Caras Jr., 39, of Barangay Estefania; target subjects Jessa Liza, 28 and her partner Allen John Garote, 31, both residents of Barangay 27; and Ernesto Samson Jr., 30, Barangay 16.

Personnel of CDEU raided Liza's house, which is suspected to be a drug den, around 6 p.m.

Albaytar said Liza and Garote allegedly sold a shabu to a police agent for P1,000.

They have been placed under surveillance for one month, he added.

Caras, who reportedly brought the contraband to the couple, was present during the operation while Samson bought an item from the couple.

Police recovered from them 10 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 30 grams, the P1,000 marked money and a coin purse.

There was resistance on their part during the arrest but they were all subdued, Albaytar said.

He added the couple is identified as street-level targets while Samson is a newly identified drug personality.

Liza was previously arrested for drugs but was able to post bail.

Albaytar said the AWOL police officer is a high-value target drug personality, who reportedly supplies illegal drugs to the couple.

Caras was previously assigned at Police Station 4 and Bacolod City Mobile Force Company before he went AWOL last year due to an alleged carnapping case, Albaytar said.

Albaytar said that Caras is an alleged user and pusher of illegal drugs. He has been under the watch of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) after his name is included in the drug’s list.

There were reports that Caras was also allegedly threatening some of the residents in the area whenever he visits the village, he said.

The suspects will be charged for illegal possession of dangerous drugs.

All four suspects are detained at Police Station 4.

Meanwhile, Caras refused to divulge his sources and alleged that he resigned from the police service, Albaytar said.
