Spring festival to start soon

THE Chinese community and the City Government have prepared a series of events for the annual celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

According to Doctor Charles Cheng, the Chinese Lunar New Year is also popularly known as the Spring festival, which was first celebrated in the city during the mayoral time of Represenative Mauricio Domogan.

"The purposes of the festival are to serve as a bridge to better understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and China and also to promote tourism, and boost the economy of the City," Cheng said.

Cheng promises that the events will "draw a multitude of Baguio's viewing population."

Pepito Avena, assistant overall coordinator for the Baguio Spring festival 2010, said that the celebration is part of the Chinese "culture [where] they share their blessings every year through the Spring festival."

The official launching of the festival is on February 8 and the grand parade is on February 13.

A "Barangay Gift Sharing and Medical and Dental Mission" that will benefit 100 recipients of San Antonio Village, Aurora Hill, will be held on February 9.
