More economic zones in Davao Region pushed

DAVAO City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) seeks to strengthen the promotion of more economic zones in the region.

“We need more economic zones as to promote and even bolster the continuing progress of the business sector in the city or even in the region,” DCCII 50th anniversary chair doctora Ma. Lourdes Monteverde said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw media forum on Monday, July 23, 2018.

Monteverde also added that there are processes to follow in order to come up these economic zones.

“It has a tedious process to go through. We have to consolidate with different institutions’ approval in order to implement such. The minimum hectares to develop an industrial manufacturing economic zone for the foreigners can locate or Filipino companies who are into manufacturing is about 25 hectares,” Monteverde said.

Monteverde also added that there are more to just establishing economic zones in the regions, providing sustainable community livelihood must also be considered.

“Factors like power supply, road network, and connectivity must be considered because goods must be transported efficiently and effectively,” Monteverde said.

As of November 2017, Davao Region has 14 economic zones based on the list of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza). These zones are Darong Agricultural and Development Corp. Economic Zone, The Annex-SM City Davao IT Center, Matina IT Park,

Ayala Business Center, Felcris Centrale, Luisa Avenue Square IT Center, Abreeza Corporate Center, Robinsons Cybergate Davao, SM Lanang Premier IT Center, Damosa I.T. Park, CIIF Agro-Industrial Park - Davao, First Oriental Business and Industrial Park,

AJMR Agro-Industrial Economic Zone, and ANFLO Industrial Estate.
