THE Cagayan de Oro City Government received Monday P10.3-million capitalization fund from Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for the enrolment of 50,000 indigent families in 2016.
Dr. William Benardo, head of the City Health Insurance Office (CHIO), said the amount is an incentive given to the city for the services it rendered to the public, particularly health care services.
In 2016, Moreno spent some P120 million to enroll about 50,000 indigent families in Cagayan de Oro to PhilHealth.
In 2017, the figure has increased to P70,000 as the Moreno administration targets for Kagay-anon residents to be PhilHealth members.
“So we have now fully paid the P17 million as payment to the city. In essence, we are paying the city because we cannot put the health care responsibility to the local government's shoulder alone, we have to be partners,” Marlon Arrbaca said, the local health insurance officer of PhilHealth-Northern Mindanao.
Moreno said 40 percent of the funds they received will be used to purchase additional medicines, another 40 percent for the establishment of health facilities, and the 20 percent for the implementation of the Primary Care Benefit.
Moreno urged the sponsored beneficiaries to maximize the use of their membership, as they are entitled to primary care benefit package that includes free services such as medical consultation, diagnostic examinations and medicines, among others.
