JobStart produces 237 graduates from Oro

SOME 237 Kagay-anon out-of-school youth graduated from the JobStart Philippines program this month, a city official said.

Public Employment Services Office (Peso) manager Kathleen Kate Sorilla said the youth have undergone 3 cycles to complete the program, which includes the life skills training, technical training and internship within 3 months

Of the 237 graduates, 159 jobstarters were successfully hired by their employers.

"Others are working in hotels and our partner employers while others got the job from employers who are not even our partners," Sorilla said.

In 2015, the Department of Labor and Employment-Northern Mindanao, the Bureau of Local Employment, the city government of Cagayan de Oro, Asian Development Bank through the financial assistance of the government of Canada, have signed a Memorandum of Undertaking for the implementation of JobStart Philippines in the city.

Since then, the JobStart program has produced graduates who are now successfully working in private and government agencies, Sorilla added.

JobStart aims to assist young Filipinos with career development pathways by creating opportunities to improve their technical skills and develop the life skills necessary for success in today’s competitive workplace through partnership with employers.
