DTI: Basic, prime commodities’ prices stable

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has reported that the prices of basic and prime commodities remain stable from January to June, this year, in this city.

However, DTI Provincial Director Ceferino Rubio said that during the period there was a slight increase in the prices of King Cup Plain sardines by 3.7 percent and Toyo sardines by 4.5 percent, all the rest no increase.

Rubio said monitoring of prices is usually done weekly but given the present condition wherein this city is under martial law, thus, monitoring is done on a daily basis.

He reminded local business establishments and manufacturers to inform and submit supporting documents to DTI before they could implement any adjustment pursuant to the provision of Republic Act (RA) 7581 or the Price Act of the Philippines.

The provincial director also said that RA 7581 is the law that mandates the creation of the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) headed by the municipal and city mayors.

In the case of this city, the LPCC is chaired by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
