Limlingan: Floods and relief goods

DURING the season of floods, the Pampanga Provincial Government is never too late in providing assistance to Kapampangans especially those whose homes and source of living are under flood waters. Indeed, the capitol is quick to response during calamities.

We can often see either the Provincial Governor or the Vice-Governor or the tandem are often seen in relief-giving operations with the flooded Kapampangans getting sighs of relief from “Nanay” and “Delta.”

Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda are always champion to the masses, making themselves the answers to the prayers of victims of calamities and natural disasters. Good for the Kapampangans that the two are the ones personally handing over relief goods.

Truckloads of goods usually contain canned goods, rice, instant noodles, coffee, sugar among others. For the flooded, these are means to pass the days of rain and survive without going elsewhere to find food sustenance.

Calamities reverts life to the good old days when food, shelter and clothing are the only needs and wants of man in life. Flooding make life back to the basics that flood victims are satisfied with simple staple foods, basic clothing and modest roofs over their heads.

Relief goods are in these days. They are the best resources people in distress may have. These are considered means for survival while waiting for rains to stop and floods subside.

In Pampanga, there are still low-lying areas that are susceptible to floods and are in fact perennially flooded during incessant rains. Good thing is, people from such places are very resilient that they do not stay in grief but rather find means to go through their daily living.

During relief-giving in the province, worthy to mention are the efforts of the personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk-Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) under the tutelage of the untiring Angie Blanco. They are always ready lending hands to calamity-stricken families.

The PDRRMC people, like soldiers, are always willing to risk everything to save lives, in the name of public service. They leave their own families when they are most needed by the latter, in the service of other people.

Heavy rains did not dampen the spirit of politicos last Monday to be at the House of Representatives for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte. In their grandest attires, senators, congressmen, government officials from the national and local governments and other guests came to witness the reporting of the President, despite its several minutes of delay due to the change of leadership of the lower chamber.

For those who may not know it yet, we have a new House Speaker in the person of former President and 2nd District of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Congratulations Madam.
