Talisay nurse suspended over illegal drugs inventory

THE Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas suspended a government nurse from the Talisay City District Hospital for being negligent in the inventory of regulated drugs.

Farrah Fortich-Quimada, graft investigation and prosecution officer, suspended Rene Beldas for three months and a day without pay for simple neglect of duty.

Belas mishandled the inventory of five ampules of a regulated drug, causing them to be broken.

“When a public official takes an oath of office, he or she binds himself or herself to faithfully perform the duties of the office, and use reasonable skills and diligence, and to act primarily for the benefit of the public,” read Quimada’s decision.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by his colleague, Rowena Abao, who accused Beldas of conduct unbecoming of a public official, grave misconduct, and violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

Abao said he was on duty in the hospital’s operating room when Beldas, who was off-duty, arrived and shouted at her, pointed his finger at her, and tried to punch her.

Beldas allegedly warned Abao to be careful since she had “done a lot of wrongs” and to “beware of me.” (GMD)
