Drug mule's allies arrested in bust

THE two alleged accomplices of the call center agent who tried to smuggle ampules of nalbuphine inside Cebu City Jail were caught in follow-up operations in the villages of Kalunasan and Day-as last Tuesday.

Guadalupe Police Station Chief Eduard Sanchez identified April Jay Fano Ajoc’s cohorts as Rachel Peligrino Vargas and Vargas’s brother-in-law Anthony Brian Grecia Vargas.

Ajoc was arrested first at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. He had allegedly placed 20 ampules of Nalbuphine inside a condom, which he hid in his buttocks.

The suspect, during an interview with the police, divulged the names of his cohorts.

At 5 p.m., Anthony Brian was arrested in Unit 2 Opra, Kalunasan. Seized from him were five ampules of Nalbuphine and two small sachets of “shabu.”

Operatives caught Rachel on D. Jakosalem St., Day-as at 6:30 p.m. She yielded seven ampules believed to contain Nalbuphine and five small packs believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu.

Sanchez said the focus of their investigation is the suspects’ contact in Cebu City Jail.

Full of surprises

Ajoc admitted to the police that he had been smuggling ampules of Nubain by placing them inside a condom and hiding it in his behind for several times in the past.

Meanwhile, Rubio said that they always strive to be ahead especially against individuals who have creative ways of smuggling contrabands in the jail facility.

“The Cebu City Jail is always full of surprises when it comes to its visitors. That’s why our personnel must also be ahead of those who attempt to sneak in contrabands by being strict and watchful of the visitors,” Rubio said.

He added that they already placed counter-measures in their facility to prevent people from the outside from sneaking in illegal items in the jail.

Cebu City Jail warden Supt. Renante Rubio said that he is planning to give an award to the searcher who discovered the ampules of nalbuphine hidden in the would-be jail visitor’s buttocks.

Nubain is a regulated painkiller that’s often used to manage post-surgical pain. In the last two decades, however, it has become a drug of choice among addicts, who inject it by itself or with other drugs. (KAL, JOB)
