AN OFFICIAL of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) on Wednesday, July 25, said they are beefing up security measures outside campuses in the city to ensure safety and security of students.
Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said while authorities are still validating and investigating the reported abduction attempts of Maranao women in the city, they would deploy police personnel outside the schools and universities here.
“Magbutang ta mga personnel sa mga eskwelahan kay samtang kamulo ang pag-verify nato ani naa na tay gihimo nga action (We will deploy law enforcers in schools as part of our actions while we are investigation it),” Hortillosa said.
The Xavier University-Central Student Government issued a reminder for their fellow students which was posted on their Facebook page last July 23. The Facebook post was quoted as saying “Bantay Ka-CG! Here are some reminders in light of the recent disappearances of students around Cagayan de Oro City.”
The advisory reminded students not to stay out in the streets late at night; to always update parents, guardians, and friends with regards to their location; to make sure to charge their phones before they venture into the streets; to be vigilant at all times; to not to talk to unfamiliar people; and to immediately report suspicious people to the police.
