PBA player, beauty queen as special guests

A PROFESSIONAL basketball player and a beauty queen will share their success stories in the 4th A Team Sunday Basketball School Forum tomorrow, July 29, at the AVR 5 inside Xavier University main campus here.

No less than Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player John Paul Erram of Black Water Elite and reigning Miss Cagayan de Oro Katrina Acaylar will talk about their chapters in life and how they became who they are now.

They will share the importance of “parents support” to the young and budding athletes.

The forum is mainly for parents who had children excelling in their respective sports disciplines.

“We found it a necessity because developing athletes need their first coach and that’s the parents. Without them, it’s difficult,” said A Team head Arvin Martinez, also a sports coordinator of XU College Athletics.

For a short view, Acaylar though not an athlete will talk about her success through the support of her parents.

“She may not be an athlete, but her success will inspire parents,” Martinez said.

In contrast, Erram rose to fame without the support of his parents.

Ateneo de Davao University athletics director Noli Ayo, also the convenor of the Mindanao Peace Games, will also be among the guest speakers.

The A Team is envisioned to be a provider of athletes with character in schools from where they are, be it in local, national or international level.

The forum will start at 8 am and it is free to the public especially to those parents who have children to groom becoming a good athlete.

“But, it is open to everyone even those who are not yet parents,” said Martinez.
