Cop freed by NPA after 7 months

NEARLY seven months since he was abducted, a police official from President Roxas town in North Cotabato was released Friday, July 27, in Sitio Apog Apog, Barangay Panaka, Magpet, North Cotabato.

Police Inspector Menardo Cui, deputy police chief of President Roxas town, was received by his mother Filomena Cui who was very emotional.

Cui's wife died of cancer just a month after he was abducted by the 2nd Pulang Bagani Command on December 28, 2017.

Cui was off-duty and was having some drinks with friends at HMB KTV Bar and Lodging House, located at the boundary of Barangays Tuael and Poblacion in Magpet, when he was taken.

Police Regional Office (PRO 11) spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said that Cui was fetched by Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go, who represented President Rodrigo Duterte, to receive the abducted policeman from the hands of the New People’s Army (NPA).

There to facilitate the release were bishops and pastors belonging to the Exodus for Justice and Peace.

Go, together with Cui, arrived Friday afternoon by helicopter and turned over the prisoner of war to his family as well as to the regional directors of Davao and Soccsksargen Police, Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan and Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales, respectively.

The turnover was made at the Davao Police grounds in Camp Catitipan in Davao City.

Driz said Cui will undergo medical checkup and psychological debriefing.
