RECENTLY bumped into Arjo Atayde when I visited her mom, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez at their cozy home in Quezon City. Hugged me and said,"Hi, Tito Rey, how are you!”
So, I started asking him regarding his career. Are there any project for him yet? "Yeah, Tito I do have an upcoming project in ABS. Kaya lang di pa kasi puwedeng sabihin,e.”
Arjo has grown up to be a very fine actor in his generation. Does he take it a complement when people say he got his acting skills from his mom?
"Well, I'm so proud of being the son of Sylvia Sanchez. She's a great actress, not because she's my mom.Pero siguro naman I have proven my identity as an actor. Although, I really don't mind na parang palaging nakakabit ang name ko kay mom. I think that's how it is,e.Pero alam ko sa sarili ko na I act the way I feel kung ano yung tamang attack sa isang character.”
Arjo doesn't really have to work hard to earn for himself. They're provided well by their dad businessman Art Atayde, But he said: "It not all about money. When I joined showbiz, I started to realize that it's my life. I mean, I enjoy acting. I want to portray various roles. I want to better prove myself not I'm not only the son of Sylvia Sanchez. I want to to establish myself in this field as a versatile actor.
Now that he's earning his own money, how does he handle them? "Well, Tito, I put up small businesses. I already have a small resto in Pasig, a gym in Alabang, and other stuff. pero hindi pa talaga malalaking business. Basta, gusto ko lang may mapuntahan muna yung kinikita ko ngayon.”
Is there any dream role for him? “Dream Role? Well, di ko alam,e. I mean, hindi ko alam kung may dream role ako. Pero siguro yung talagang iba. I mean, yung naiiba talagang character na hindi pa nagagawa. Kasi it's hard to specify kung anong klaseng role,.e Siguro kapag dumating siya that's the time na puwede kong saibhin na dream role ko na ito.”
Arjo has a younger sister - Ria. What advice does she give Ria now that the latter has been doing TV and film assignments? I really don't give her advice. I want her to do whatever pleases her. But I assure her na palagi lang naman akong nandito for her. Syempre, ako p[a rin ang Kuya. But then, hindi lang kasi ako kamukha nung iba na parang i dictate na kung ano ang gusto kong mangyari. I still want her to establish her own identity. Ganun naman kasi dapat,e. Yung path ng isang tao hindi naman puwedeng sundan ng iba. I mean, dapat gumawa rin siya ng sarili niyang daan. And be the best kung saan siya pupunta.”
