AFTER the successful staging of the Governor’s Cup Basketball and Volleyball Tournaments, the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) shifted its focus to its grassroots sports training program in Bantayan Island.

About 400 students from Bantayan and Sta. Fe towns participated in a four-day sports training program conducted by 15 coaches in athletics, arnis, swimming, gymnastics and futsal.

The students were winners in the municipal competitions and are bound for the Provincial Meet.

Bantayan had 80 participants in gymnastics, 70 in athletics, 60 each in arnis and swimming and 50 players in futsal for a total of 320 students.

Santa Fe had 150 total participants with 50 in athletics, 30 each in arnis and futsal, 25 in swimming and 15 in gymnastics.

The sports training program started last Thursday. After the training program, the CPSC will assign the teachers to continue the training of the students and will drop by for periodic evaluations.

The CPSC organized the 2nd Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament that concluded this month and the 1st Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament last summer. RSC
