Teachers, farmers awarded for ‘gulayan’ projects

THE City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (Cavo) of San Fernando on Friday granted awards to public school Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers and barangay farmers for their participation in the “gulayan” projects at the City Nursery Demonstration Farm in Barangay Lara.

Cavo gave out one set of gardening tools to each participating TLE teacher from public schools namely Bulaon Elementary School, Del Rosario Elementary School, Dela Paz Norte Elementary School, Dela Paz Sur Elementary School, Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Integrated School, Pulungbulu Elementary School, Telebastagan Integrated School, Alasas Elementary School, Baliti Integrated School, Camp Olivas Elementary School, Information and Communication Technology High School, Mansgold Elementary School, Panipuan High School, San Agustin Elementary School Annex, San Agustin Integrated School, San Jose Panlumacan Integrated School, Sindalan High School, Maimpis High School, Saint Vincent of Quebiawan Integrated School and Santa Lucia Integrated School.

Some 27 farmers from seven barangays were named best organic practitioners and given farming inputs like fertilizers, rice hull carbonizers, green corn seeds, rakes, and shovels.

Nine barangays, who were participants in several gulayan projects, were given another set of vegetable seedlings to recover from the effects of the recent typhoons.

At the same time, Cavo also distributed assorted seedlings and insect traps to Sindalan Elementary School, Barangay Sindalan to TLE teachers from Archbishop Emilio Cenense Memorial Integrated School, Calulut Integrated School, City of San Fernando West Integrated School, Del Carmen Integrated School, Dolores Elementary School, Lara Integrated School, Magliman Integrated School, Maimpis Elementary School, Malino Elementary School, Malpiltic Integrated School, Northville Elementary and High School, Pampanga High School, Pandaras Elementary School, Panipuan Elementary School, Saguin Integrated School, San Fernando Elementary School, San Isidro Integrated School, San Jose Juliana Elementary School, San Juan South Elementary School, San Nicolas Integrated School, San Pablo Elementary School, San Pedro Elementary School, Sindalan Elementary School, and Santo Niño Elementary School.

The participants will be given three months to grow crops with the regular monitoring of Cavo.

City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay said Cavo will be evaluating each awardee’s production after 45 days and will be awarding the best produce after three months of evaluation.

The awarding wrapped up Cavo’s yearly Nutrition Month celebration.
