LTFRB 7 warns of stiff fines for colorum vehicles

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has warned colorum vehicle owners to stop their illegal operation otherwise they will be penalized heavily.

LTFRB 7 Director Ahmed Cuizon said they imposed a total of P1.2 million to a taxi, two passenger jeepneys (PUJs) and a passenger mini bus for operating as a colorum.

Cuizon said these vehicles will remain impounded for three months and may only be redeemed after payment of appropriate fines. “If not, then we will auction them off after six months,” Cuizon said.

He said that even though their office parking area is congested, their campaign against colorum vehicles will continue.

The chairman of the Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (Citrasco) said they appreciate the apprehension of colorum vehicles.

“I hope LTO (Land Transportation Office) will also continue to operate against all denomination of illegal/colorum vehicles because they compete with legitimate transport operators,” said Citrasco head Benjamin Ryan Yu.

Yu and his group have an approved application to operate modern passenger jeepneys from the Cebu Business Park to Cebu City Hall and vice versa. EOB
