Sorongon, Lee win Cosmo Run

RINCE Joey Lee and Ruffa Sorongon came out as the biggest winners in the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes Inc. (CFHI) Run For Your Loved Ones yesterday, which started in the Cebu IT Park and ended in Plaza Independencia.

Lee, the ace runner of Spectrum Runners Club, completed the 5-kilometer run in 14 minutes and 40 seconds to capture the men’s 25-below title and the P5,000 cash prize.

Roel Algofera came in second in 15:00 and Ychon Agustin Jr. finished third in 15:09. The second and third placers won P3,000 and P1,000 cash.

Sorongon dominated the women’s 25-below to make it two in a row this week following her win in the 10K race of the Rose Pharmacy Cancer Warriors’ Run the other day.

The Sultan Kudarat-born Sorongon finished the 5K race in 17.38, beating Evamie Villarin by about a minute for the title. Melody Perez came in 18:49 to round up the Top 3.

Joseph Arnel Emia of Rider Omega bagged the 30-Above crown in 15:29. Michael Largo and Kenyan James Mebei finished as runners-up with times of 15:56 and 16:13, respectively.

Gel Monsanto topped the women’s 30-Above in 20:19, winning over ultramarathoner Sandra Sollano (20:26) and Azalea De Jesus (21:54).

The run was one of the activities of CFHI on its 70th anniversary. The proceeds of the event will go to the homeless community in Cebu. (RSC)
