2 dead, 1 wounded in shooting, stabbing

TWO persons died, while another was wounded in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in Negros Occidental in the past three days.

In Sagay City, Edmundo Tizon, 40, accidentally shot himself and his mother, 73-year-old Edrena Tizon, in Barangay Makiling on July 28.

Police records showed that Edmund, who was reportedly drunk, suddenly got angry when a commotion between his family and his relatives ensued during a birthday celebration.

His mother tried to pacify him when he allegedly drew his .45 caliber pistol but they ended up grappling the firearm. Edmundo accidentally pulled the trigger.

Edmundo succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in his left thigh.

Edrena, on the other hand, sustained a lone gunshot wound.

In Cadiz City, Edgardo Fernandez, 55, was allegedly stabbed by Oscar Omisol, 22, at Sitio San Andres, Barangay Banquirohan on Friday, July 27.

The two were having a drinking session outside the house of the victim's live-in-partner when an argument occurred between them.

This prompted Omisol to attack the victim with a kitchen knife, police records showed.

Fernandez sustained stab wounds to his upper chest and lower abdomen. He was brought to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Omisol fled.

Fernandez was a technician at Northern Negros Electric Cooperative. (Debbie Benedicto, STI West Negros University intern)
