VETERAN basketball coach Jong Uichico is just glad to be able to share his vast knowledge and experience as a coach with local coaches and aspiring coaches in the different regions of the Philippines in the grassroots coaches’ clinic of the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP).

“This is for the grassroots coaches and advanced coaches in the province. Instead of the coaches in the provinces going to Manila for clinics, which are quite expensive, the SBP decided on us going to the provinces. It’s cost-effective, that’s one. This has been an advocacy of mine since before. I want to also give the same opportunity to the other coaches in the provinces that I had, going to clinics all over Manila and in the States,” Uichico told SunStar Cebu during the first of his two-day SBP Central Visayas coaches’ accreditation workshop and clinic. “Of course, not everybody has the opportunity to go to the States and to go to Manila to attend clinics. This is my advocacy to go out and reach out to coaches in the provinces. Not only in Cebu, but also those outlying the Cebu area. I’m just happy that I can share my blessings as a basketball coach with the other coaches who want to enhance their basketball knowledge.”

Uichico was assisted by Cebuano coach and fellow Gilas Pilipinas coaching staff Ryan Betia in the workshop and clinic.

A total of 170 coaches, PE teachers and aspiring coaches from Cebu, Dumaguete, Bohol and Maasin attended. (EKA)
