ABC, Mabini, Lucban split volleyball league

ABCAMP - UC outwitted HCA – Blue in three sets to close out its campaign in the Cordillera Volleyball Developmental League for Elementary Secondary Schools (CVODELESS).

Down by 10 points in the second set, ABCamp went on a rampage to eke out a 25-14, 26-24, 25-19 to win the title in the grassroots division despite finishing second at the close of the eliminations round behind league leader HCA.

ABCamp had a similar 3-2 win loss slate with North Volleyball Club but had a higher points of 13 against 11 which earned them a twice to beat advantage going into the semis.

HCA Blue topped the eliminations with a perfect 5-0 record.

After cruising to a 25 – 14 win in the first set, the eventual champion was suddenly down by 10 points.

A mini coup saw them inch to 18-9 before moving on to complete the revolution that saw them equalize at 24-all and the clincher.

Kier Angela Sabas provided the leadership for the University of the Cordilleras High School as she was named the most valuable player, the only ABCamper to get into the special awards.

Meanwhile, Mabini Elementary School swept Lucban Elementary School for the boys’ title with Rayven Arances, brother of UC stalwart Reynae as the MVP. However, Lucban dominated the individual awards with four of its players taking the award.

The Lucban girls survived a first set loss to host BCS but won the last two to win the girls plum. (Roderick Osis)
