Chop-chop body still unidentified

THE person believed to be the chopped up woman found on Cabantian Road in Buhangin, Davao City, is alive and well.

The remains were still unidentified as of Tuesday, July 31, even as body parts believed to be from the chopped up woman were recovered along the road near Northpoint condominiums at the Buhangin cloverleaf.

Authorities earlier said the remains, which were found inside a garbage bag left in front of a pawnshop along Cabantian Road, Buhangin District in Davao City on July 29, belonged to Margie Sapio Albarico, 31, a person with special needs and a resident of Purok 4-B, Aranas Compound, Matina Pangi, Talomo District, Davao City.

Sopriano Maturan Albarico, 68, thought it was his daughter’s body. Margie left their residence at around 3 p.m. of July 26 and failed to return home.

Margie was, however, found by a concerned citizen in Compostela Valley and turned over to the police.

“Please be informed that Margie Albarico is alive,” DCPO spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said.

Margie was reunited with her parents around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.

"On July 31,2018 her custody was properly turned over to her parents and they are now heading Davao City. Hence, the found dead body is not Margie which was claimed earlier by her parents after reported missing last week. It was a mistaken identity," the DCPO progress report stated.

A garbage collector and his colleagues discovered the garbage bag where the chopped up human body was placed in a transparent plastic cellophane during their regular rounds. The bag contained the head, both arms, both legs, and upper torso. The lower torso was missing.

At around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Central 911 received a report that a black garbage bag left on the sidewalk along Buhangin Flyover beside the Camella Northpoint entrance gate was emitting an unusual foul odor.

Mobile patrol #92 manned by PO1 Bautista confirmed that the bag contained the middle part of a human body wearing black short pants. It is believed to be the missing part of the body found in Cabantian.

The garbage bag was reported by the chef of White House Restaurant Julie Epong Taguran.
