Minda updates 2020 framework

THE Mindanao Development Authority (Minda) has begun with the updating of the Mindanao 2020 to Peace and Development Framework for 2030.

“Now more than six years into that development plan, we are now working towards updating the peace and development plan. This time considering the game changers in Mindanao today,” Undersecretary Janet M. Lopoz, Minda executive director, said during a consultation with members of the media on Tuesday, July 31, at Apo View Hotel, Davao City.

The Mindanao 2030 Peace and Development Framework is an updated version of Mindanao 2020, which serves as a blueprint for long-term projects that can help resolve and sustain peace and develop in Mindanao. The development framework will address governance, economy, and human development.

Lopoz added the game changers which brought to the updated version of the development plan included the recent enactment of Bangsamoro Organic Law, the review on the shift of a federalist type of government, the implementation of Train law, Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act, and even the presidency of first Mindanawon president, Rodrigo R. Duterte.

“We also learned so much experience from the Marawi siege. Now, we have been conducting dialogues countering violence extremism. We are now even confronted with the issues on youth radicalization,” Lopoz said.

Lopoz said the update of the peace and development plan also had to do with the recent incident of the Marawi siege in May 2017.

In order to boost the implementation of the peace and development framework for Mindanao, Minda has initiated the Mindanao Development Corridors strategy, as a way to spur economic development and progress in the island region.

According to Minda, the strategy will create robust infrastructure development in the entire Mindanao.
