Tuguegarao bank loses P35 million to robbers

BANK robbers who posed as policemen took away on Tuesday evening, July 31, P35-million worth of cash from Metrobank branch in Tuguegarao City, a police official said.

Tuguegarao City Police Chief Superintendent George Cablarda said the robbers used police uniforms in order to enter the bank located along Luna Street smoothly.

Initial investigation showed that one of the five robbers who introduced himself as a police officer told the bank security guards that they will conduct a surprise inspection at the facility, particularly at the Cash Management Services Unit.

The unsuspecting security guards allowed the “policemen” to enter the bank and even asked the robbers to lodge their names in their record book.

But after entering the bank, one of the robbers pointed a firearm to the security guards, while the other four men tied them up.

The robbers then rushed toward the second floor of the bank where tellers were counting the bank’s money before putting it in the vault.

The robbers ordered the bank personnel to lie face down and took the cash amounting to at least P35 million.

Cablarda said that before leaving, the robbers threw a fake grenade so that no one will be able to follow them as they escape.

Investigation is ongoing. (SunStar Philippines)
