Zambo mayor calls for residents’ support in security

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Wednesday, August 1, reiterated her call for the residents to give out their full support and cooperation to the security measures being implemented to ensure safety and protection in this city.

“Security is everybody’s responsibility and when everybody works together and support the advocacy, safety and security is effectively ensured,” Salazar said.

Based on the mayor’s directive, police and military authorities have tightened security measures in checkpoints in all entry and exit points of this city as well as intensified coastal and sea patrols in a bid to foil attempts by lawless elements.

The renewed security campaign came in the wake of the car bomb explosion in Lamitan City, Basilan early Tuesday that killed at least 10 people, including the van driver transporting the bombs.

Seven others were wounded in the bomb explosion. They were airlifted to Camp Navarro General Hospital in this city.

Salazar said the Zamboanga City Police Office and Task Force Zamboanga are directed to exhaust all means to keep this city safe amid threats from lawless elements.

She encouraged civilians to immediately report to authorities the presence of suspicious individuals or activities in their area or to share any information that may help lead to the solution of a crime incident. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
