DABAWENYO singer and actor Poppert Bernadas shares his experience as one of the stars of the long-running musical “Rak of Aegis.”
“I’m playing the role of Kenny, the son of Ms. Isay Alvarez, who is the barangay captain, and I’m also the love interest of Aileen,” he said.
As Kenny, the former “The Voice Philippines” contestant revealed that being part of the show and acting on stage with multi-awarded performers Isay Alvarez and Robert Ceña is never easy, especially that everything is done live.
“Grabe ang experience namin sa musical na’to!” Poppert, who used to be part of Team Sarah in “The Voice PH,” shared. “Aside sa napakahirap ng kantahan, medyo challenging din ang set namin at alam ito ng mga nakapanood na.”
When asked how he got one of the most coveted roles in “Rak of Aegis,” Poppert said that his performance in his previous theatre act has something to do with it.
“How did I get the role? Hmm... When I did ‘Lorenzo the Musical,’ the life story of San Lorenzo Ruiz in 2013, some people from Peta (Philippine Educational Theater Association) saw me there. So, when they had an audition for ‘Rak of Aegis,’ wala talaga akong idea about (I mean) sa audition and the play itself, until my friend Jerald Napoles (one of the stars of Rak of Aegis) called me at the time and said that the director wants me to audition for a role in ‘Rak of Aegis’ and the rest is history,” he recalled.
In the meantime, he disclosed that some accidents have even happened on stage.
“Marami na’ng accidents ang nangyari on stage. Pero part iyon ng fun experience,” he said.
He noted, too, that amid the challenges of working for this musical, there is so much to be thankful for.
“Syempre iyong mga co-actors ko, ang sarap lang nila katrabaho. Talagang nabuo ang family ng ‘Rak of Aegis’ at ngayong 2018, mas lumalaki pa ang pamilya namin kasi marami kaming mga bagong members ng cast ngayon,” the Talomo-raised performer said.
Aside from finding a family in “Rak of Aegis,” Poppert likewise noted that by being part of the show, a lot of opportunities have opened, not just for him but to the other cast members as well.
