AN IMPROVISED explosive device (EID) went off on Wednesday evening, August 1, at the port of Masbate City, police said.

The Masbate City Police Office said that a witness, who was fishing in the area in Barangay Bapor, saw two men onboard a yellow motorized banca that was docked at the port. The two men left a small box at the port stairs.

The alleged perpetrators then left onboard their banca and minutes later, around 11:15 p.m., a loud explosion was heard.

The blast damaged one of the motor bancas.

Bicol Police Director Arnel Escobal said no one was hurt in the incident.

Police recovered from the scene scattered PVC pipes and a SIM card.

The Masbate City police, together with the Philippine Coast Guard personnel, have conducted a follow-up operation.

On July 31, 10 people were killed when an IED placed inside a van exploded in Lamitan City, Basilan.

The Abu Sayyaf allegedly perpetrated the attack.
