COMMUNICATIONS Assistance Secretary Margaux "Mocha" Uson, a sexy-star-turned-politician, expressed willingness on Thursday, August 2, to help the Duterte government in the information drive about the proposed transition to a federal government.

Uson, who has 5.6 million followers on her official Facebook page "Mocha Uson Blog," sought to promote federalism on social media.

The Palace official said she wants the public to fully understand President Rodrigo Duterte's intent to change the current set-up of government from unitary to a federal system.

"Isi-simplify natin 'yung pag-papaliwanag sa masa [tungkol sa planong pederalismo] sa pamamagitan ng social media (I will simplify the explanation to the public [about the proposed federalism] through social media)," Uson told Palace reporters in a chance interview.

"Ang gawin natin, inu-udyukan ko ang mamamayan, bakit ba itong Pangulo na pinagkakatiwalaan natin, si Mayor Duterte, ay naniniwala sa pederalismo. Kaya dapat maintindihan ng ordinaryong Pilipino ito. At sila na rin ang magsasabi kung makakatulong nga ba ito sa bansa natin," she added.

(What we have to do is encourage the public as to why the President, Mayor Duterte, whom we trust believes in federalism. So the ordinary Filipino must understand it. And they will be the one to say if it will be beneficial to the country.)

Uson's statement came after the Consultative Committee (Con-Com), tasked to propose amendments to the 1987 Constitution, mulled to tap her in disseminating information about federalism to increase awareness among Filipinos.

Uson said she would meet Con-Com spokesperson Ding Generoso on Friday, August 3, for a "brainstorming" session on plans to promote the proposed federal government.

"Tignan natin kung ano ang advice ng Con-Com. Bale bukas po, bukas pa lang kami mag-meeting (Let's see what would be the advice of the Con-Com. So tomorrow, we will have a meeting)," she said.

"Ah, malalaman ko rin yun bukas sa brainstorming. Sila ang magsasabi sa akin. I-brief pa nila ako (I will know tomorrow during the brainstorming. They would tell me about it. They will brief me)," Uson added, when asked what could she contribute in the government's information drive on federalism. (SunStar Philippines)
