CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) on Thursday, August 02, 2018 announced an alert status following a bombing incident in Lamitan City, Basilan last Tuesday which claimed 11 lives and after an improvised explosive device (EID) went off on Wednesday evening at the port of Masbate City.

CIAC has heightened its security measures at the civil aviation complex upon the directive of Secretary Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

CIAC president Alexander Cauguiran said enhanced Security Condition or SECO Level 2 is being implemented at the airport.

“Flight operations are not affected and the security enhancement is our proactive approach to ensuring public safety, " Cauguiran said.

Tugade ordered heightened security in all airports, seaports, railways, road transport terminals, and issue alert protocols in the wake of the Basilan and Masbate blasts.

"I have directed airport ground personnel to heighten security measures 24/7 on top of our daily strict routine," Cauguiran said.

The airport chief added that all vehicles and individuals passing through airport premises will be subjected to full inspection, including thorough screening of car trunks, baggage and cargo.

Security personnel will also be deployed inside the passenger terminal, Cauguiran said.

CIAC is also closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Command and other law enforcement units for the manning of the airport gates and the airside area.
