FUNDLIFE International and the Department of Education (DepEd) have partnered for the promotion of sports development in Eastern Visayas as it received additional support from Vice President Leni Robredo’s anti-poverty program Angat Buhay.

The non-profit organization, through its Football for Life Academy (FFLA) program, launched a football clinic and workshop to the 16 student-athletes of Salcedo Central Elementary School in Eastern Samar on August 1 upon the invitation of Robredo.

On Thursday, August 2, the FFLA team and the 16 student-athletes also held a friendly match after the official turnover of the sports equipment led by Robredo.

Through Angat Buhay, the school athletes received brand new sports equipment from football, softball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, sepak takraw, boxing, and track and field.

The donation is from Solana Land and Real Estate Corp., through its chairman, Gian Valero, the FundLife International said in a statement.

According to the organization, two FFLA head coaches facilitated the clinic and workshop.

Two members of the FFLA delegation to the Fifa Foundation Festival, an official event of the recently concluded 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia, and two top FFLA football players from the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries (TSCHI), an FFLA partner school in Leyte, also joined in the event.

“Through these activities, the FFLA team hopes to impart the skills and knowledge gained at the Fifa festival in Moscow,” it said.

“The presence of representatives from the Department of Education demonstrates the continuing partnership between FFLA and DepEd in bringing football to public schools; complementing the existing Physical Education curriculum, to which it serves as the main engagement and empowerment tool to aid in the children’s physical and social health, values formation, and personal and interpersonal growth and development, as well as using the sport for social development,” FundLife International said.

Also present during the event were representatives from the DepEd-Tacloban City Division, Ivannovich Agote, senior education program officer for social mobilization and networking and Crissvil M. Villamor, project development officer, and from the TSCHI, Tanauan, Leyte, Rufino Almaden, sports coordinator.

FundLife International was established in 2014 after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) to help in the rehabilitation process of affected communities in Leyte and Samar. (SunStar Philippines)
